When you download most QuickBooks products, you receive the same full working version of software you would purchase in the store or by phone, with the option to download other extras (templates, manuals, etc) separately, at your convenience. Q: What are the technical requirements to download QuickBooks?
A:
Our most satisfied customers meet three specific technical requirements before deciding to download QuickBooks:

  • A high-speed Internet connection (DSL, cable modem, or higher) to accommodate the large file size. Customers with dial-up connections are highly encouraged to purchase a CD-ROM rather than downloading.
  • For Windows: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, to enable the QuickBooks Download Manager to properly manage the download for you
    For Mac: Safari 3.0 or higher
  • 120 MB free disk space for the installation. After installing QuickBooks, you can delete the installation archive from your computer to free up disk space.

Q: How do I download QuickBooks?
A:
We recommend starting the download in Internet Explorer in order to use our Download Manager:

  1. Click the Download link on the Thank You page after completing checkout online or in MY DOWNLOADS.
  2. A new window will open up. Click the "Download Now" button.
    Note:You may see a message about an ActiveX control in a yellow bar at the top of the web page. Follow the directions on the page to accept the ActiveX Control by clicking the yellow bar, clicking "Install ActiveX Control, and then clicking "Install."
  3. When prompted to save the QuickBooks file, we recommend saving it to your desktop.
  4. The Download Manager will begin to download automatically. While the status is "Initializing," it may look as though nothing is happening for a few minutes. Please do not pause or close the Download Manager at this time.
  5. Once the status changes to "Downloading," you may pause or exit the Download Manager at any time and resume where you left off by clicking the Download Manager icon on your desktop.
  6. Once the download is complete, click "Launch" in the Download Manager to install your software.

To download from a browser other than Internet Explorer or if you chose to do the Manual Download:

  1. Click the Download link on the Thank You page after completing checkout online or in MY DOWNLOADS.
  2. Click "Save."
  3. On the Save As screen, choose a place on your computer where you would like to save your downloaded file. We recommend saving to your desktop.
  4. Click "Save."
  5. Double-click the downloaded program file to begin installation.

Q: What if I need to stop the download or the transfer is interrupted?
A:
You can stop the download at any time by clicking the "cancel" button in the download dialog box on your screen. To re-start a download, simply visit your online MY DOWNLOADS page and enter the account login information you created or entered during your purchase. Once logged in, select the "download now" button next to the product you wish to download and your download will re-start at the point where it left off.

Q: What can I do if I am unable to download?
A:
If you are unable to download, temporarily disable any firewalls, anti-virus software, pop-up blockers, and download accelerators. If you are still unable to download, contact QuickBooks support.

Q: Where does the downloaded QuickBooks file save to by default?
A:
QuickBooks will download to the default that you currently have set when downloading files for Internet Explorer. Most often, the default for these files is the desktop on your computer unless you select another destination when prompted. If you believe QuickBooks has completed downloading, and the file is not on your desktop:

  1. Click Start, point to Find (or Search), and select Files or Folders.
  2. In the Named field, enter the name of the file to be found. The file name varies depending on which program you downloaded.
  3. In the Look in field, select My Computer. The Include Subfolders box should be checked.
  4. Click Find Now or OK to begin the search. Windows will display a window with the search results listed. Once you have located the file, make a note of its location. To begin your installation, double-click on the file from the search results window to begin installing the program.

Q: Where can I find an online record of my download purchase?

During the checkout process for your purchase, your account information was saved in your online Intuit account. To view the details of your purchase, including re-starting your download, downloading again, or to get any general download information, simply return to the online MY DOWNLOADS page and log in.
