QuickBooks Giving Handcrafted Honey Bee a Buzz
In the fall of 2013, Stacia Guzzo combined her background in teaching with her passion for body care products — from lip balms to clay masks — to launch a small business in Tehachapi, Calif. Since then, Handcrafted Honey Bee has become a popular vendor of do-it-yourself body care craft kits, which Guzzo (pictured) describes as “fun, unique, and totally customizable.”
Guzzo’s commitment to making body care products intensified with the birth of her first son in January 2011, when she began wanting to know “everything about every ingredient I put on my baby’s body,” she explains.
After years of studying and teaching others how to make soaps and more, Guzzo has perfected her craft. She now aims to share this “empowering knowledge” with a wider audience.
To reach her objective, she entered QuickBooks’ Small Business Local Buzz campaign. “My goal is to help customers have fun learning about ingredients, have a unique experience, and feel empowered by taking their body care into their own hands,” she wrote in her entry. “I’m a dreamer but not a businessperson by nature. I could definitely use some help! From content marketing to list building, SEO to press kits, I’ll be grateful for any help.”
This week, QuickBooks notified the inspiring mompreneur that Handcrafted Honey Bee will soon be buzzing, thanks to a customized marketing package worth $5,000. “I’m kind of in shock. It’s amazing!” Guzzo exclaimed upon learning that her small business had been selected as a winner.
“One of the reasons that I entered the contest in the first place is because … marketing is one of the areas where I need the most help,” she says. “I have no official business background. I have really concrete ideas and a vision for where this business could go, but I need tools to help me get there.”
What does Guzzo ultimately hope to accomplish?
“I would love to see this business flourish worldwide,” she says. “I would love to be sending kits all over … especially to moms [who] want to take care of their families with natural products and [to people who are] looking to try to something that they haven’t tried before in the area of skin and body care. I want to reach them. My vision is as big as the world.”
