Thousands of fans have voted for their favorite business to win small business grants on LoveALocalBusiness.com.  In July, August and September, three of the those businesses were randomly selected as Finalists, winning small business grants worth $5,000.

For our July-September competition, we asked three previous Love A Local Business grant winners, Blossom Birth in Palo Alto, California, SailProud Apparel based in Boston, and Maria Luisa Gifts & Accessories in Nyack, NY, to serve as our judges.

While the choice was difficult, they selected BookSmart of Morgan Hill to have their grant increased from $5,000 to $30,000.  They were inspired by BookSmart owner Brad Jones’ promise to commit half of the prize to books for Morgan Hill schools.  Jones was delighted at the good news, “It has been amazing to have Intuit and our fans validate what we’re trying to do – not only for our business, but also for our community.”

With the $5,000 grant BookSmart won in July, Jones said he would have been able to give $20 to each Morgan Hill classroom through 3rd grade.  With the Grand Prize, he is excited that they’ll be able to provide books for every classroom in the district.  Now that they have won the $30,000 small business grant, Jones shared that their plan will also include a special shopping event for the teachers.

A new round of Intuit’s Love A Local Business grant competition has started!  We’re awarding $100,000 in Intuit Hiring Grants between October and December.  Vote now for the local business you love.
