Jefferson City, the capital city of Missouri, is one of of two city winners of Intuit’s Love A Local Business City Challenge. Over 350 businesses in the area were nominated in the month of June on LoveALocalBusiness.com, and because these two communities showed so much love for their local businesses, Intuit is now sharing that love, in the form of cash grants.
Four businesses in Jefferson City are each receiving a $5,000 grant. The fifth grant remains unclaimed and, thus, Intuit will be donating that grant to the Chamber of Commerce to be used to support all JC-area local businesses. (Although Jefferson City received over 8,000 unique votes, only four businesses nominated themselves for the grants, which is a requirement to win.)
Dandelion Preschool is our first winner. Owner Angela Plumb achieved her lifelong dream of starting this preschool in August of last year. Her preschool serves over 30 families in the Jefferson City area. She found out about the Love A Local Business from a customer and from her aunt, both of whom saw the competition in the local newspaper. Now that she’s won a grant, she says she’ll be using the money to buy new equipment for her school.
Mike from Patterson & Forck was very happy to get our call announcing that he was our second winner from Jefferson City. When we advised him that his business was selected as one of the winners, he actually said aloud, “Hallelujah!” Patterson & Forck is a CPA firm with seven employees. It will be using the funds to make much-needed repairs in the office and upgrade some equipment. Says Mike, “Thank you, Intuit. I appreciate it very much!”
Our third winner is The Old Brick House Deli. Located in a Jefferson City landmark building, The Old Brick House Deli has been serving signature sandwiches, wraps, and salads since 2000. Its owners strive to provide a personal experience for its customers. Owner Dave was excited about the grant because has a list of items that he has wanted to tackle to improve the deli.
The final winner is Lifesong, which provides counseling services to people in Jefferson City. Lifesong received hundreds of votes on Love A Local Business, and Dr. Richard Lillard, the managing partner of the practice, was thrilled to hear the news. Lifesong for Growth and Wellness just opened in January, so a share of this grant will be especially helpful as it is still getting up and running. Lifesong actually found out about the contest when its office manager was researching a QuickBooks question. The company is planning to use the grant to expand its networking and marketing operations in the Jefferson City area. Dr. Lillard says that he is thrilled, flattered, and excited to be selected as one of our city-by-city competition grant winners.
It’s not too late for your community to be featured in our next Winner’s Announcement. Nominate the businesses you love at LoveALocalBusiness.com.
