Meet this week’s Backed by QuickBooks® recipients!
Backed by QuickBooks is spontaneously backing small businesses on crowdfunding platforms from now until Thanksgiving. Here is a look at two of the impressive businesses we backed this week:
SoaPen – New York, N.Y.
SoaPen is a colorful pen filled with liquid soap that allows children to draw on their dry hands and, in removing the traces of this drawing, they wash their hands and learn the benefits of good hygiene. The SoaPen was started by three female industrial designers who met while studying at the Parsons School of Design in New York and conceptualized SoaPen as part of UNICEF’s Wearables for Good Challenge, which they won in 2015. Co-founders Shubham Issar, Amanat Anand and Yogita Agrawal launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to scale their production. With support from Backed by QuickBooks, SoaPen was able to fundraise more than $28,000. With this financing, SoaPen will begin production, fulfill Kickstarter rewards and donate soap to low-income communities in need.
Pound Cake – Philadelphia, Pa.
Pound Cake is a cosmetic company designed for people of color. Co-founders Camille Bell and Johnny Velazquez are attempting to shatter current standards of beauty by representing all shades and tones in their cosmetic lines, and by educating consumers on stigmas in the beauty industry today. They launched Pound Cake as part of Temple University’s Blackstone LaunchPad and participated in local pitch competitions to get Pound Cake off the ground. They began an IndieGoGo campaign earlier this fall and, with support from Backed by QuickBooks, were able to raise more than $20,000 to put toward product development.
The founders of these businesses, as well as last week’s Backed by QuickBooks winners, will be attending QuickBooks Connect in San Jose, Nov. 15-17. Be sure to congratulate them if you see them on the show floor!
We’ll share the Backed by QuickBooks recipients with you every week, so keep checking back to see some of the remarkable businesses that have been backed by QuickBooks! Who knows who could be next?!
