ChronoBooks: Backup, Restore and Copy for QuickBooks Online

I am the creator of ChronoBooks. I started in the QuickBooks® ecosystem in 2014 with a company named SaaSOptics, and began work on ChronoBooks in March of 2016. It was first released in April of 2017, and then released on the App Center a few weeks later. Since then, we’ve been helping QuickBooks Online (QBO) users manage and secure their valuable accounting data.

Functionality and Main Features

ChronoBooks backs up, restores and copies QBO accounting data. It automatically backs up changes minutes after they’re made in QBO, and can restore a company to any time (down to the minute!) since its first backup. It can also copy data from one company to another, creating a “clone” or sandbox, and can regularly export your accounting data directly into your Dropbox or Google Drive.

What Sets Us Apart

ChronoBooks was the first backup app on the App Center, and it continues to have the best QBO compatibility around. ChronoBooks is the only app that can copy a QBO company, and it backs up transaction types that aren’t supported by any other app. No other app can liberate your accounting data like ChronoBooks.

Customer Feedback

Customer feedback was integral to the conception of ChronoBooks, and continues to be the guiding force for all product management. Initially, I saw that QBO users wanted the same kind of data freedom that they had with QuickBooks Desktop – the ability to copy a company file or use a previous file version. Not only have we brought that to QBO, but with ChronoBooks, manual backups are also not required and you’re not limited to restoring to specific backup times.

I started working with Intuit® years before ChronoBooks was conceived, and they’ve been backing me every step of the way. They’ve provided guidance after initially submitting ChronoBooks to the App Center, promptly supported all development questions, solicited for API feedback and continue to support our marketing efforts. My friends at Intuit are some of my closest collaborators!

Intuit continues to cultivate the world’s largest community of accounting professionals. More discreetly, it has also developed a premiere app ecosystem that will further blossom as they bolster the capabilities of the QBO API (application programming interface, through which apps such as ChronoBooks communicate with QBO). I can’t wait to see what kind of new features this will open up for ChronoBooks, and to see brand new apps making use of them!

ChronoBooks can be used by any QBO user and was created with outsourced accounting professionals and growing SMBs in mind. Accounting professionals are entrusted with their clients’ accounting data, and ChronoBooks helps secure that data with additional accounting controls. Growing SMBs undergo many changes as their financial processes mature, and they look to further automate with the addition of new integrations. ChronoBooks provides a firm foundation for change.

Way Forward

Apps have become ubiquitously important to the automation of SMBs. When you’re implementing new processes, spend lots of time researching and selecting the best tool (app) for the job. These choices have huge, long-term effects on your customer satisfaction and employee efficiency, and can be very costly to change after growth.

When you’re just starting out and growing, you’ll be strapped for time and won’t be able to deeply introspect every business metric. When you’re forced to lean more on managing the business by “feeling,” remember that customer satisfaction is always the best business metric.
