Get deeper insights with enhanced custom fields in QuickBooks Online Advanced

2 min read

QuickBooks® Online Advanced was built to help growing businesses work more efficiently, be more productive, and gain deeper insights to make the best decisions possible. One way it helps you do all that is with enhanced custom fields.

Customize data types and reports

The goal behind enhanced custom fields is to help you track the little things so that you can gain deeper insights into the big things. You can do this by customizing, tracking, and reporting on four data types:

  • Text
  • Numbers
  • Dates
  • Dropdown lists

With Advanced, you get up to 10 active fields to use each data type—the most of any QuickBooks Online plan. You can customize things like customer contracts, sales transactions, and purchase orders with these unique fields. The custom fields then allow you to search, sort, and filter the information that’s relevant to your business, and you can quickly generate custom reports for deeper insights.

Track the metrics most important to you

With enhanced custom fields, you can you can easily add personalized fields to track important metrics for your business. For example, you can add a custom field for a sales representative and append this field to a customer record. Then, as you create invoices for your customers, you can easily track the performance of that particular sales representative across customers.

If your business is required to do so, you can also use multiple custom field types to help you meet your regulatory needs. For example, for healthcare companies, you can apply and track the Medicare billing number on invoices and reports.

Searchable so you can see trends

Custom fields are searchable, so you can see trends by key data points. For example, you can search or filter on something as granular as the sales representative—and then generate a report for just that sales representative, showing their sales over a certain time period or their contact rates.

Choose what your customers and employees see

You have control over what information you want your customers or vendors to see, and what you can see internally. For example, you may want to track a metric that classifies a customer for your own business needs. The customer does not need to see that information, so when you set up the custom field you simply do not select the option to “Show to customers.”

Enhanced custom fields lets you customize the QuickBooks experience on a granular level to help you make better business decisions. It’s just one of the features that enables customization in QuickBooks Online Advanced – the most powerful QuickBooks Online plan yet. Advanced is designed to give complex businesses like yours deeper insights, more flexibility, and more productivity so you can grow faster. It’s the best accounting software for medium-sized and growing businesses.
