Training Employees on How to Use New Technology or Equipment

Want to enhance work efficiency and keep your employees happy at the same time? Regular training sessions on new technologies make your employees more confident and reduce frustration. Mastering new technologies not only helps your business grow, it can make your employees more motivated to work and can increase their job satisfaction because they feel more valued.

Knowing when to upgrade your business technology is only half the battle. Some employees may be resistant to change. Make training an ongoing process to keep them up-to-date and get them on-board with new ways of doing things. There are several ways you can go about doing this.

Manufacturer Training

Most manufacturers offer training to you when you purchase a new technology. This technology training may come in the form of online sessions, self-driven classes, or a series of webinars. In some cases, a manufacturer may even send out a representative to install the technology and train your employees on how to use it on-site. Regardless of which method the manufacturer offers, it’s a good idea to take advantage of this type of training to advance your company, especially if it is free.

Training Sessions

Lengthy employee training sessions can be boring. Instead of overwhelming your staff with long days filled with lessons, opt for short sessions. Maybe even introduce one crucial skill at a time and give everyone time to adjust before introducing something else. You can set aside a specific day of the week, or simply introduce a new skill as your employees need it.

Hands-On Teaching

Sometimes the best way for your employees to learn a new program or method is by simply letting them try it. If the technology is easy-to-use and has a built-in tutorial or guidebook, consider letting your employees work through the bugs on their own. You can also allow employees to experiment with the new technology in small groups before it goes live.

Creating Training Teams

Some employees catch on to the new technology faster than others. Encourage these individuals to help others who are resisting the change or provide pointers to those who just can’t quite grasp the new methods. Create small teams and let them share their knowledge with each other. You can even provide incentives for this type of training method, such as a free lunch or a gift card for helping out if you can afford it.

Contacting Support

Make sure everyone keeps a list of contact numbers for external support at their desk or close by for when questions arise. Giving each member of your workforce easy access to help is an excellent way to help ease the transition from an old method to a new one.

Follow-Ups

Hold regular follow-up training sessions to address any new features. Software programs get updates all the time. You need to make sure everyone adapts with the changes, and be sure to give everyone a chance to ask questions.

Listening to Feedback

Feedback should come from every individual using the new technology. Send out a survey or ask for feedback at your next meeting or training session. Let each member of your staff have the chance to speak out on whether they like the new technology and what they would do to change it.
