The “back end” of any website or software application is the part of the product that is not seen by the user. The back end is not the appearance of the website, but is instead the portion of the product that adds utility to everything the user sees. It is a combination of databases and software that runs on cloud-based servers. The back end is where data is pulled, saved, or edited. This data is then returned to the “front end” portion of the product for the user to interact with. In the most simplest description, anything a user sees or experience while using a website or software application is made possible by back end code running on an internet-based server.
