Use Beacon Technology to Build Sales for Your Retail Business

1 min read

Beacons boost your ability to communicate with shoppers who are physically in your brick-and-mortar store. These devices can transmit to shoppers’ smartphones and tablets once they enter or approach your shop, using Bluetooth low-energy wireless signals to track their locations in the store and send messages to them. The beacons broadcast a URL that encourages the shoppers to interact with your retail operation online.

A beacon can enhance the shopping experience for repeat customers who have downloaded your store’s app. The beacon can communicate directly with your app, alerting shoppers who are physically in your store to special offers or personalized suggestions. These special offers engage your customers and reward them for their loyalty, making them more eager to return to your shop to see what deals you’re offering. Even if the customers are just browsing, the interaction between the beacon and the app allows you to track where they went in the store and how long they lingered in a particular aisle.

Beacons can also augment your Facebook marketing strategy, even if you haven’t developed your own app yet. Facebook’s free Bluetooth beacon interacts with the Facebook app on your customers’ smartphones. When they enter your store and check Facebook, they’ll get your welcome message, see the latest posts on your Facebook page, and check out what their friends have said about your store. The interaction between the Facebook app and your beacon also steers each shopper to check in and like your Facebook page, giving you another way to communicate with that shopper on an ongoing basis.
