A customer profile outlines the characteristics of a business’ ideal customer. It paints a clear picture of who the customers are and what they want. The profile is built on a foundation of demographic information such as age, gender, family size, and income group. The client picture becomes clearer and more focused with details about likes and dislikes, interests and values, and preferences regarding hours of service and methods of contact. A well-prepared customer profile gives a thorough understanding of the target buyer, and it directs the business’ marketing efforts toward the group of people most likely to be customers.

Customer profiles help with making profitable business decisions. If the ideal customer works weekdays, business hours can be set to include evenings and weekends, or if the ideal customer likes to browse online before shopping, a business website with blogs and FAQs may be appealing.
