Use Online Marketing to Build a Local Presence

1 min read

Many small business owners don’t realize how much online marketing affects local businesses. Gone are the days when people turned to the phone book to find a local plumber or roofer. Instead, people go to the internet, so even small local businesses need an online presence.

One way to leverage online marketing is to create a Google My Business listing. This listing means that when someone searches for a business near their location, Google displays a map showing your company nearby along with its information. The best part is that claiming your Google My Business listing is free, and the site walks you through the whole process.

You should also create a website for your company. It doesn’t have to be elaborate. You can use an online site builder, such as Squarespace or Weebly, to create a one- or two-page site that tells visitors everything they need to know about your business. You might include your business address, phone number, and hours of operation, plus the services you provide. Additionally, you should make a Facebook page for your business to build a social media presence in your local area.

To be successful at local online marketing, don’t neglect traditional marketing techniques either. You can still build an email list, but instead of creating an elaborate opt-in that appeals to everyone, incorporate simple features, such as digital coupons, that people in your local area can use.

Although local online marketing requires a unique approach, you can still tweak many tried-and-true marketing strategies to your benefit. Make sure you review marketing blogs for tips. With a bit of creativity, your online presence can take your business far.
