2 min read

As a freelancer, independent contractor, or sole proprietor just getting started, you spend a lot of time working on your own. When you work alone all the time, your productivity might suffer. If you work best surrounded by the industrious buzz of other entrepreneurs, you may want to check out a co-working space. In some cases, these spaces even have shared amenities. Lonely in Vancouver? Check out the following co-working spaces.

The HiVE in Vancouver promises to be more than just a co-working spaces. It’s a social impact community where “i” is less important than the community as a whole. You can join the community without ever working in the space; you can reserve a permanent desk with your name on it; or you can book a hot desk. A hot desk is a space that any worker can use, and when they leave, another worker can jump into that spot. HiVE also offers spaces for events and meetings as well as services such as professional mailboxes and addresses, which come in handy if you don’t want to use your home address for your business.

Located in Gastown and walking distance of coffee shops, restaurants, and gyms, L’Atelier bills itself as an inspiring work space for entrepreneurs, startups, and freelancers. As of 2017, you can buy monthly subscriptions to the space. Opt for just 40 hours a month, unlimited access to a hot desk, or a dedicated desk with storage space. On top of that, L’Atelier has meeting rooms for rent, mailbox services, event hosting, and concierge services. The space isn’t just for working on your own; it provides networking and collaboration opportunities for members as well.

The Network Hub

The Network Hub has locations throughout Canada in Nanaimo, New Westminster, Calgary, Toronto, Victoria, and Richmond as well as Vancouver. The services vary in each location, and in Vancouver, entrepreneurs can access mailbox rentals, meeting rooms, and coworking spaces. This space welcomes lonely freelancers, and in particular, it promises to welcome misfits, rebels, and “troublemakers.” It’s also open to groups of workers who need room to spread out. If you have recently added employees or even a team of freelancers to your rosters but you don’t have dedicated office space, you may want to check out the Network Hub. Whether you need space for a small meeting or a large workshop, the facility has the room that you need.

Spacekraft Coworking

Situated 15 minutes east of downtown Vancouver, Spacekraft by CMPNY is a co-working space in Burnaby, British Columbia. The location is within walking distance of many amenities including public transit, restaurants, and shops. As of 2017, the space has 74 desks and 13 individual offices in 10,000 square-feet of space. There are also quiet telephone rooms, seminar spaces, event rooms, and even a recreation room with ping pong if you need help getting your creative juices flowing. Spacekraft has several membership plans, and you can even visit the space with a free day pass.

These are just some of the co-working spaces in Vancouver. It’s important to note that every space has its own vibe. If you’re interested in the idea, you may want to visit several spaces before committing to one.
