Are you starting a new small business? Here is a quick checklist of must-do items:

  • Write your business plan.

  • Identify and reach out to potential clients and key suppliers.

  • Decide on your legal status: Will the business be a sole proprietorship or a corporation?

  • Identify and protect your most important intellectual property (such as trademarks and copyrights).

  • Use QuickBooks to prepare a sound financial plan, including revenue streams, accounts payable, capital needs and financing.
