Cybersecurity is the process of protecting critical information and systems from various cyberthreats. Typically, the threats take the forms of cyberterrorism, cyberwarfare and cyberespionage. Small businesses can protect themselves by issuing written protocol for all employees to follow, such as:

  • Signoffs and confirmation that all anti-virus and malware software is regularly updated for all equipment.
  • Requiring the use of multistep authentications for logins, as well as strong passwords that are changed regularly.
  • Conducting regular backups of sensitive information on multiple systems: computers, external drives, and the cloud.
  • Requiring that all employees undergo cybersecurity training on a regular basis.
