What is NFC?

0 min read

Near field communication is a wireless technology that allows supported devices to communicate without an Internet connection when they’re in close proximity to each other. When a NFC-enabled device is near another NFC-enabled device, the NFC chip in the first device activates the chip in the second device to form a wireless link. This allows the two devices to transfer data from one to another. Most newer models of smartphones have built-in NFC chips that allow people to use mobile payment apps, such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet, to make payment. This payment method is fast, convenient, and secure, as sensitive data are encrypted. To accept mobile payments, small business owners need an NFC chip reader, such as the Square chip reader.
