Cloud computing refers to storing data, accessing that data and utilizing software programs over the internet to remote servers, as opposed to storing and accessing that data directly on your personal computer. The cloud refers to all of the things that you can access remotely over the internet. Small businesses use the cloud as a means of convenience, reliability and security.

Common cloud usage includes:

  • File storage
  • File sharing
  • Backing up data
  • Software applications, such as accounting software, spreadsheet software, presentation software, CRM software and more.

Most technology companies use some form of cloud service for their backends.
