Ontario Programs Offer Incentives to Businesses That Hire Young Workers

1 min read

There are a number of programs designed to help young people in Ontario find work, and if you own a business, you may want to get involved with one of these programs. They help you to find quality young employees to hire, and they also help to offset some of the costs involved.

Through the Youth Job Connection, people ages 15 to 29 years spend 60 to 90 hours learning career development and personal management skills. Then, the program helps them find a job and provides them with additional support during their early days in the position.

If you get involved with this program as an employer, you get access to free job postings and the chance to set up exhibits for free at job fairs. If you decide to hire someone from the program, you get the benefits of someone who has gone through the training mentioned above. You can also claim a wage subsidy to cover some of the cost of training.

If you just need seasonal help for the summer, Youth Employment Services also runs the Youth Job Connection Summer program.

This program focuses on teen workers in particular who are interested in summer employment. To participate in either of these programs, your business needs to be licensed in Ontario. You also need to comply with relevant labour laws and have safety and liability insurance in place.

Hiring young workers can be a great way to get fresh talent into your business. Thanks to these programs and similar ones, you can earn incentives for hiring young workers, and you also get the satisfaction of giving back to your community by providing youths the chance to earn an income and develop their professional skills.
