How do I delete unwanted chart of accounts

I am using quick books as the Treasurer of non-profit organization, Elks Lodge.  Recently, we were given a different way to record our chart of accounts.  Now, I have many unneeded chart of accounts.  How do I delete the chart of accounts I no longer need.

We can inactivate the unused accounts, elks1216. 


QuickBooks can't delete unused accounts. It can deactivate them instead. Here's how:

  1. From the Chart of Accounts page, click on drop down arrow of the account the (next to View register/ Run report link). 
  2. Choose Delete.
  3. Click on Yes once prompted to delete it.

If you want to activate them, just click on the Gear icon located above the ACTION column. Then, check the Include inactive box.
