Hi there, welshe5.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) calculates the 940 amount based on the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) amount when creating a paycheck. To see the FUTA amount calculated for the employee's wage, you can run the Payroll Tax and Wage Summary report. Then, customize the period to this year.

Here's how:

  1. Click Reports on the left side menu.
  2. Enter Payroll Tax and Wage Summary in the find report by name section.
  3. Choose This Year in the Date Range section.
  4. Click Run Report.
  5. Click FUTA Employer under Federal Unemployment (940) section.
  6. See the total amount under the Tax Amount column.

Whatever amount showing in the Tax Amount Totals column should be the same amount reflected in the Pay Taxes page for 940as a payroll liability.

For more details on how QBO populates 940, you can check out this article:https://community.intuit.com/articles/1767549.

If there is a FUTA amount showing in the report, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. They'll further investigate what's causing this issue and help you process the tax payment for 940.

Here's how to reach them:

  1. Click Help inside QuickBooks Online.
  2. Choose Contact us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your issue, then click Next.
  4. Select the option to call us or receive a callback.

Please reply to this post if you need anything else. I'm here to help.
