QuickBooks Online (QBO) calculates the 940 amount based on the Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA) amount when creating a paycheck. To see the FUTA amount calculated for the employee's wage, you can run the Payroll Tax and Wage Summary report. Then, customize the period to this year.
Here's how:
Whatever amount showing in the Tax Amount Totals column should be the same amount reflected in the Pay Taxes page for 940as a payroll liability.
For more details on how QBO populates 940, you can check out this article:https://community.intuit.com/articles/1767549.
If there is a FUTA amount showing in the report, I'd suggest contacting our Payroll Support Team. They'll further investigate what's causing this issue and help you process the tax payment for 940.
