Re: Can I make an employee exempt from FUTA taxes?

Hi @jydenney,

I'm here to provide you the steps on how you can make an employee exempt from FUTA taxes.

This is both possible for your active employees and those you haven't entered yet. Let me show you how.

For your active employees:

  1. Click the Workers tab, then select the Employees tab.
  2. Look for the employee you'd like to exempt from FUTA, then click on them.
  3. Click the Edit employee button.
  4. Scroll down to the withholdings category, click the Pencil icon to open the Payroll Taxes Setup and Compliance.
  5. Move to Tax exemptions and click it. You'll see a checkbox for FUTA. Tick it to make that employee exempted from this tax.

For an employee you haven't entered yet:

  1. Go to Workers tab, then select the Employees tab.
  2. Click the Add an employee button.
  3. Setup the employee as normal, until you get to the withholdings category. Click the link Enter W-4 form.
  4. Same as step 5 above, click Tax exemptions then tick FUTA to make that employee exempted.

In case you'd like to change the first day of the work week on your timesheet, open this article for details. It shows you the steps you need to edit the first day of a work week.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
