Why is there no GST Paid (Pending BAS) account?

If I raise and invoice for $110 (inc GST) the affect on the General Ledger is

  • DR Account Receivable $110
  • CR GST Liabilities Payable $10
  • CR Sales $100

this makes sense

When I make a purchase $110 (inc GST) I see something like this

  • DR Expense $110
  • CR Cash $110

When I would expect something like

  • DR Expense $100
  • DR GST Paid, pending BAS $10
  • CR Cash $110

Have I setup something incorrectly? Am I thinking about this wrong? How is it meant to work?

Hello there, @ZeroPointLabs.

When recording purchase transactions, let's ensure to select GST on Purchases so that you'll see 3 recordings in your General Ledger.

First, let's revisit how you set your GST.

  1. Click the GST menu.
  2. Choose Set up GST.
  3. Complete the required information and choose the correct GST method that you are registered for
  4. Select Rates and Settings.

Once completed, recreate the transaction and check if its associated to the correct account. For more detailed information, you may check these articles:
