When creating or opening a QuickBooks Desktop company file and you encounter

Error code: -6129, 0: Database connection verification failure

one or more of the following may be preventing QuickBooks Desktop from performing the tasks:

  • Third party antivirus
  • Damaged Network Data file (.nd)
  • A company file upgraded to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop using a non-Windows Administrator profile
  • Server and client machines that are not on the same Domain

Before performing the solutions below, we recommend trying out a few things first:

If you are creating a new company file:

  1. On the Easy Step Interview window, select Leave.
  2. You should be prompted to save the file, select Yes.
  3. Enter a different file name, then select Save.
    Note: If changing the file name doesn't work, try changing the file location. Follow solutions 3 to 4 if the issue persists.

If you are opening or upgrading your company file:

  • Open a sample company to identify if the issue is file specific or not. If the issue is happening to all your company files, start with Solution 2.
  • Log in as a Windows Administrator before following the steps in this section.
