Install or uninstall Desktop in Selective Startup

Learn how QuickBooks Desktop can be installed or uninstalled in Selective Startup.

Occasionally, third-party applications such as antivirus and anti-spyware programs interfere with the QuickBooks Desktop installation. It may be necessary to install QuickBooks Desktop in Selective Startup since this mode enables you to start Windows with only select items running on your computer.

Since running Windows in Safe Mode deactivates the Windows Installer Service, it is no longer an option for troubleshooting potential third-party installation conflicts for QuickBooks Desktop.

We'll show you how to uninstall and install QuickBooks Desktop in Selective Startup.

Note
  • This article focuses on the Windows operating system. If you're uncomfortable doing the steps, consult your computer's manufacturer or a Windows expert.

  • Make sure you have your license and product number. While on QuickBooks, press F2 or Ctrl+1 to open the Product Information window to view them.
  • Ensure that you have a QuickBooks Installation CD. Or a downloaded installer for the QuickBooks version you want to install.
