Precautions to take to protect your accounts and data

While it is convenient to allow apps access to your QuickBooks data when QuickBooks is not running,  we recommend the following precautions:

  • You should set up a password for your QuickBooks Desktop file, if you don’t already have one.
  • Choose a strong user name and password. Use unique letters and numbers in a password, not basic words that can easily be found online or in the dictionary.
  • Protect all personal information. Never give out a user name or password, and always make sure to use different passwords for each of your online accounts.
  • Upgrade to most recent version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  • To protect yourself from phishing and other social engineering attacks, don’t open suspicious emails or email attachments.
  • Best protection is to not allow access to QuickBooks data by applications when QuickBooks is not running.
