Register or activate QuickBooks Desktop

Every time you install QuickBooks Desktop, you have to register or activate the software. Note that if you have multiple copies of QuickBooks Desktop, you need to register or activate each one

Register or activate QuickBooks Desktop

Before you activate QuickBooks Desktop, press the F2 key or Ctrl + 1 to check if it is already activated. If the status is Activated, you're all set. If the status is Not, proceed with the activation.

If you get an error that "The validation code is incorrect," check that the code you entered is correct, and that the license and product number is correct.

If the product number doesn't match the license number, change the product number before proceeding with the activation. (For help with changing the product number, see Change QuickBooks license and product number without uninstalling or reinstalling)

QuickBooks Desktop for Windows

  1. From the Help menu, select Activate QuickBooks (or Register QuickBooks).
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to verify your information, and complete the activation process.

For QuickBooks 2015 and older versions

In line with Intuit's discontinuation plan for older products, discontinued products cannot be registered for the first time. You can re-register discontinued products if they have been registered before and are being reinstalled.

You can contact us to get the validation code, but note that assisted support for discontinued products is no longer available.

Troubleshoot activation of QuickBooks Desktop

If you have technical issues, such as a blank screen or error message, try temporarily disabling your antivirus software.

If the information you entered isn't accepted, make sure it's the same information you gave at the time of purchase.
