I have been working with my very first client since October of last year, convincing the small business owner to come onboard. He is a shoebox kind of owner with no organization. His wife does billing in Quickbooks but nothing else. He's been in the landscaping business for over 8 years and growing well. He has no idea where he is financially. He's my first client and I must say I totally under quoted my price for services. It is now April but I havent' been able to reconcile Jan Feb or March yet because he can't seem to send me what I need. I want to add on and grow tremendously but am frustrated at this point. I've met with the owner and his wife in their home six times now with exact details of the information I need. I'm so excited to be here and apart of this group of very intelligent women!!!! Let's do this.

Clients like this are actually a gift! I know what you're thinking... stay with me here...
They are a gift because they will force you to create systems. You will repeat the same tasks with all of your clients, so 1) create a checklist for your repeatable tasks (weekly and monthly) and 2) create agreements on how often you will meet, reporting deadlines, etc. Agreements, both verbal and written, are critical to avoid miscommunication and conflict.
Lastly, what boundaries have you created for YOURSELF? What does your dream day look like? Be INTENTIONAL about how you run your business, or as you are experiencing, it will quickly run you!
Hey Julie! Thank you so much for your insight. Based on previous experience, I have set plans in my head but nothing on paper for myself. I am working full time now 50 hours a week as a plant administrator then part time growing my own business with hopes of independence within in next few years. Your advice is spot on...I do this all the time for my employer (Outlook alarms and alerts daily) why not for myself too??? I keep thinking that if I can just get my first one on "cruise control" the rest will come. I will certainly start to work
on "me" and my boundaries. Once I do this, I'll feel more in control and be more "forcefull" when it comes to the details.
Fantastic @BSnow... you are half way there and the mindset is the hardest part.
I know you are already working really hard, so when you can, carve out a full day to create a running checklist for your business. You can divide it into chunks later, but document as many recurring tasks that you can think of to get it out of your head and into a doc.
I can't begin to tell you the peace it will bring, and really expedite your business towards your "autopilot" dream!
