Error accessing payroll

QuickBooks works fine in every area accept Payroll. Anything clicked on in the payroll area gives an errors message that the file is read-only or is being used by another program. QuickBooks  has been completed shut down and there should be no programs attached. It is independent of other computer programs. No one else has access; it is a one-computer operation. 

Any ideas?

Let's download and run the Diagnostic Tool. Here's how:

  1. Click this hyperlink to download QuickBooks Install DiagnosticTool.
  2. When prompted, save the file to the local Desktop.
  3. Close any open programs and run the QBInstall Tool.
  4. Restart the computer after running the tool to ensure the components are properly updated.

Afterward, let's make sure you're accessing QuickBooks as Admin.

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Right click the QuickBooks Icon.
  3. Select Properties.
  4. In the Properties window, select the Compatibility Tab.
  5. In  the Privilege Level section at the bottom, check the Run this program as an Administrator box.
  6. Click on OK.

Once done, try accessing payroll again.
