I am setting up a new chart of accounts on QBO and the option to delete accounts does not exist but rather you can only make an account inactive. Does anyone know why?

I seem to recall being able to do this in the past when I have set up other COAs in QBO and certainly find many references out there on how to delete accounts so I am not sure why it seems different now. Is this a change that QBO pushed through and does anyone have any insight on how that would even make any sense?

In the QBO Chart of Accounts the process of making an account "Inactive" marks it as "Deleted".

Strange, I agree, but it has always been this way to my knowledge. When you go to the gear icon and filter to "Include Inactive" accounts you will notice that the inactive accounts show as (deleted).
