I have a couple of customers that quickbooks says they have credits to apply. The credits pop up whenever I go to apply a customer payment. The credits are bogus and nothing shows is credit memos.

Quickbooks is showing that two of my customers have credits when I go to apply customer payments.  The credits are bogus.  I go to the credit memos and these credits do not appear.

I go to chart of accounts but I do not find anything there about  customer credits.  These credits need to be removed but I can't find where they are hiding.  Please help me find out where I need to go to erase them.

Thanks for sharing this information, ronjg.

This unusual behavior could be a data issue. Let's run the verify and rebuild utility tool to resolve the data damage on your company file and see if the bogus credits are removed.

Here's how to verify data:

  1. Go to File, then choose Utilities.
  2. Choose Verify Data.
  3. A prompt message will appear, click OK

Then, here's how to rebuild data:

  1. Go to File and select Utilities.
  2. Click Rebuild Data.
  3. A prompt message will appear, click OK.
