Item list question

I just updated to a new version of quickbooks. I transported all of my files. In the old version I had put some items in the wrong category. i am trying to change some items that are listed as inventory parts to be non-inventory parts. But that box is not highlighted so I can't change it. What is the best way to fix this?

We don't recommend changing the item type because it will update the file history, as well as the financial reports. You can make the item inactive and create a new one.


Here's how to make the item inactive:

  1. Click Lists at the top menu and select Item List.
  2. Double-click the item and mark the Item is inactive box.
  3. Select Make Inactive and click OK.

Here's how to create a new item:

  1. Click the Item button and select New.
  2. Select Non-inventory part in the TYPE field.
  3. Enter the item details and click OK.

I'd also recommend consulting your accountant about this. They know what's the best way in handling your items in QuickBooks.
