Quickbooks desktop pro 2017 will not start

QuickBooks will not complete start up.  I have uninstalled the program and restarted my machines.  I have downloaded the fixer program, patches, and downloaded and reinstalled the QuickBooks program.  Still no complete startup.

Re: Quickbooks desktop pro 2017 will not start

Hello, @Reg2019.

I appreciate you trying out some troubleshooting to fix the problem. I’m here to make sure you’re able to open the downloaded QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2017.

When the program does not open, I suggest running the reboot.bat file to re-registers QuickBooks-related .DLL and .OCX files in Microsoft Windows to resolve the problem. Here’s how:

  1. Close the program.
  2. Open the folder containing the file. Right-click the QBDT icon on your computer and choose Properties.
  3. Select Open file location.
  4. Right-click the reboot.bat file and click Run as Administrator
  5. A window will open with rapidly scrolling file names. Once the reboot.bat file utility has completed, the window will close.

Check if this resolves the issue by opening QuickBooks. If not, restart your computer.

For other recommended troubleshooting steps, follow the solutions 3-5 in this article: Opening QuickBooks splash screen displays and disappears without opening QuickBooks Desktop.

That should get you pointed in the right direction. Let me know if this works out for you or you need anything else, I’m more than happy to help. Take care!

Re: Quickbooks desktop pro 2017 will not start

Hello,

I'm having a similar issue with Premier 2017 desktop version. I can only successfully open the application if I first run the diagnostic tool. If I just try to open it via the desktop shortcut, it prompts me for the password but then will not respond.

Any suggestions?

Re: Quickbooks desktop pro 2017 will not start

Hi there Waterville Playshop,

We can start at suppressing the QuickBooks program when opening it. This way, we can isolate the issue and working smoothly again. I'll show you how.

  1. Press and hold the Ctrl key, then double-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon. Do not release the Ctrl key until you see the "No Company Open" window, unless QuickBooks freezes, or gives you an error.
  2. Click the company file, then Click Open.

If QuickBooks freezes, please download the QuickBooks Refresher Tool to perform a mini repair on your QuickBooks Desktop.
