Re: reseting the sales order number back to one

Hey there, @promorobert,

I appreciate your time joining us today. I can share some insights on how to update sales order numbers in QuickBooks Desktop.

At the moment, there isn't a way to reset the numbering preference in QuickBooks Desktop if you already have existing transactions created. You can, however, update the sales order's sequence by manually editing them one at a time. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Customers menu.
  2. Choose Customer Center.
  3. Click the customer name
  4. In the Transaction section, double click the Sales Order.
  5. In the S.O. No. field, enter the number you want to use.
  6. Click Save and Close.

That should get you on the right track, @promorobert. IF it does not allow you to add a custom number, try checking your Preferences and turn off the duplicate number warning. Here's how:

  1. Go to Edit and click Preferences.
  2. Go to Sales & Customers.
  3. Click the Company Preferences tab.
  4. In the Sales Orders section, unmark the Warn about duplicate Sales Order numbers box.
  5. Click OK.

That should point you to the right direction. I'd be glad to continue assisting if you should have any additional questions. Wishing you and your organization continued success!
