Keeping the column widths isn’t an option at the moment, Catherine.
What I can suggest is you work on many tabs. Example: If you want to access the Reports section, but don’t want to leave the Invoices page, just right-click on Reports and choose Open link in new tab. You can do anything on that tab while keeping the Invoices page open to keep your preferred column widths. Then, if you need to open an invoice on that page, just make sure you don’t close the tab.

I came in search of this exact answer hoping there was a solution I was just not seeing. So I hope the Quickbooks online team fixes this soon. I spend more time doing this alone. Most pages I open (app or browser) push the information off the side of the page. So I have to adjust my columns in order to see all the information each time. I seem to spend more time adjusting columns than actually entering data. Surely this could be looked into fixing. This happens on my Mac as well as my PC I use.

In QuickBooks, as mentioned by my colleague above, the column adjustments will revert to their original width when logging out or changing tabs.
In the meantime, you can follow the workaround suggested above so your adjusted columns won't revert back.
