How to reclassify multiple transactions from one Chart of Accounts to another in QBO?

If we have to reclassify multiple transactions from one code to another, do we have an option to reclassify them all together or must we edit each transaction to change the nominal and tax codes one by one?

Re: How to reclassify multiple transactions from one Chart of Accounts to another in QBO?

It really depends on the type of expense transactions:

  • Some types of expense transactions can be easily reclassified in batch actions (see screenshot below)
  • Split transactions that have more than one account selected in a single transaction can’t be reclassified in batch
  • Item details like Inventory Type also can’t be reclassified in batch

To reclassify category in batch:

1) Select Expenses from the home page dashboard

2) On the Expenses tab, select the transactions that need to be reclassified

3) Choose “Categorize Selected” under the Batch actions drop down menu

4) Select New Category and Apply  (See screenshot below)

What about in QuickBooks Desktop?

QuickBooks Team

The reclassify tool is also available in QuickBooks Desktop, Sradi.

This tool helps the accountants correct the transactions that were assigned to the wrong account. Please take note though that this option is only available in QuickBooks Accountant and Enterprise Solutions. If you're using one of these versions, just refer to this article for the detailed steps: Reclassify transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, if you have a regular QuickBooks Desktop version (Pro or Premier), you'd have to manually change the accounts used on the transactions.
