Question

How do I fix a reconciliation balance if a bill payment was deleted after the month it was posted in was reconciled already? Begin balance for next month is off now.

Hey there, @darcy5.

Thanks for reaching out to us here in the Community.

If you deleted a bill payment and that's causing your beginning balance to be incorrect, then you have a couple of options in which you can resolve this.

1. You can recreate the bill payment and reconcile that single transaction.
2. You can create a journal entry to adjust the beginning balance for future reconciles.

Although both of these options would resolve this matter, I recommend reaching out to your accountant to know which is best for your business. I've included the steps below to accomplish both tasks.

Recreate the bill payment and reconcile the single transaction.

1. Click the +New button and choose Pay Bills.

2. Select the correct bill to pay. "Ensure that the payment date is the same as the bill date."

3. Click Save at the bottom.
4. Open the Chart of Accounts and locate the account in which the payment was made. Hit View register.

5. Find your transaction and under the checkmark box, click until you see "R". Click Save once you see "R"

Create a journal entry to adjust the beginning balance for future reconciles.

1. Click the +New button and choose Journal Entry.

2. Click the Is Adjusting Journal Entry? checkbox.

3. Fill in your journal entry. You can see Create Journal Entry for more details.

That's all there is to it. To have more details that cover both options, check out these handy articles:
