Hi there,moment98.

There’s a great chance you’re opening a different account type. Thus, there’s no option for you to add a check as a transaction. You’ll want to ensure that the account type you want to add a check to is a bank type account.

To learn more about your chart of accounts and adding transactions to your register, check out these articles:

Also, you’ll want to go to the Transaction or Banking menu and create a rule from there. Let me show you how.

  1. Navigate to the Transactions or Banking menu, and select the Rules tab.
  2. Select New rule.
  3. Enter a name in the Rule field.
  4. From the For drop-down, select Money in or Money out.
  5. From the In drop-down, select the bank or credit card account.
  6. Set the rule conditions.
  7. In the Conditions fields, specify whether the rule applies to Bank text, Description, or Amount.
  8. Select the settings for the rule. Select the Transaction type, Payee, and the Category to apply.
  9. Click Save.

Once you’re all set, you can now reconcile your accounts anytime you're ready. To guide you through the process effectively, check this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.
