It’s great to see you in the Community, josh-webuyhouses.

Yes, you can record mileage automatically in QBO. Make sure your company is configured to track business miles.

To start, check your driver’s permission using the master admin access. This is the only user type who has access to the Mileage Tracking option. Next, open QBO on your mobile device to activate the feature.

Here’s how:

  1. Open the QuickBooks mobile app.
  2. Select the menu ☰ icon and then Mileage.
  3. Choose Auto-tracking.
  4. Then, turn on Auto-tracking.

Then, turn on your phone's background location permissions for auto-tracking. The process differs depending on the device.

For iOS, set your phone's location permissions to Always and turn on Motion & Fitness permissions (accurate trip tracking). You'll find detailed instructions through here: Turn Location Services and GPS on or off on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If you're using an Android phone or tablet, configure the location permissions to Allow all the time and physical activity permission to Allow: Check out this guide for complete steps: Choose which apps use your Android phone’s location

To complete the process, perform Steps 4-5 in this article: Set up mileage tracking and vehicles in QuickBooks Online.

The following links provide additional information about the setup process and instructions on how to categorize trips.
