Do I need to pay MA unemployment tax as a single member LLC? Where are the missing transactions?

I have contacted the quickbooks agents many times regarding paying Unemployment tax. I was told as I am the owner and only employ of the company, I don't need to pay such tax. However, it shows much ever quarter asking me to pay this tax.

Thanks for reaching out, @c-shuhan17.

I'm unable to give advice as to what taxes need to be paid for your company. If you are unclear, it is best to reach out to your accountant as they know your account and business the best!

With that being said, I'm more than happy to show you make this change within QuickBooks when they should've been exempt from state unemployment insurance, but was recorded as non-exempt. Here's how:

  1. Select Workers, then select Employees.
  2. Choose the name of the employee.
  3. On the Pay section select the edit (pencil icon).
  4. Under withholdings select the edit (pencil icon).
  5. Select Tax exemptions. Then choose the state tax to be exempted (like CA SUI and ETT and CA SDI).
  6. Select Done.
  7. A window pops up to inform you of your next steps, the taxes that are updated, and whether or not you have to reimburse the employee in the next check.
  8. You will see adjustment checks on your paycheck list.

If you want to read more on this, check out this article: Adjust employee exemption taxes.

Let me know if you have additional questions on this or anything else within QuickBooks. I'm happy to help. Take care!
