Question

Does it matter if a name is misspelled on a 1099 but the tax identification number is correct?

We ran 1099s through QB online and one vendor came back and mentioned her name is misspelled by one letter.  I don't think it matters since the name is close enough and the tax ID is correct.  However, I'd like to confirm.

Hello there, rene_garcillano.

We can update the vendors name within QuickBooks and then print a new paper form to amend a 1099. Follow the same process in preparing your 1099s. Once the form is printed, mark the CORRECTED checkbox at the top.

Here's how to edit your vendor's profile.

  1. Go to the Expenses menu.
  2. Click Vendors and select the vendor's name.
  3. At the upper-right, click Edit
  4. Correct the vendor's information.
  5. Click Save

It's also best to reach out to the IRS for more clarification. You can also refer to this articles that will give you further information about 1099s FAQ.
