Thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page, @tanjahomas.

The system calculates employees' tax withholding depending on the status, wages, deductions, and other aspects affecting the calculation base on their records. If you wish to update the amount of taxes taken out on their paychecks, you can modify it by editing the payroll.

Here are the steps:

  1. On the left panel click Payroll or Workers, then click the Employees tab.
  2. Tap the employee's name and select the Paycheck List.
  3. Click the Net Pay link and click the Edit link located at the bottom.
  4. Hit the Employee Taxes drop-down arrow to expand, and then edit the Federal Income Tax amount.
  5. Then, select OK.

Moving forward, please make sure to set up the correct details of your employees for the system to generate and calculate taxes correctly. You can open this article for your guide under the QuickBooks Online Payroll (all versions) section: Edit or change employee info in payroll.

To stay compliant with the federal income tax withholding and personal income tax guidelines, you can as well review these articles:

I'm looking forward to hearing from you again. If you have any other QuickBooks questions, please feel free to add a comment below. Thanks for coming, keep safe!
