Question

I set up QBO payroll premium for the first time and added employees. QBO says I can "run payroll now using paper checks" but nothing happens. Do I need to talk to QBO?

I'll help you fix this so you can run payroll in QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBOP), @kfunasaki.

If you see a spinning wheel when running payroll, we'd like to inform you that we have an open investigation related to this. Our engineers are all hands on deck to resolve the issue the soonest.

However, if you're unable to start creating paychecks at all, I recommend performing some basic troubleshooting steps.

There are times that local cache files stored in the browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product.

To start, let's use a private window when running payroll. This a special mode where the browser doesn't record the browsing activity on the local device, so no trace will be left on the computer.

Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome).
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Firefox).
  • Control + Option + P (Safari).

If you're able to run payroll, then let's clear the cache in your web browser or try using a different supported browser. This might be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that you use.

Let me also provide you a link to check if your browser is compatible with QuickBooks: Fixit.intuit.com.

In addition, you can run several payroll reports in QBOP. This way, you can view useful information about your business and employees.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, please let me know in the comment section down below. I'll be always around to help.

Hi Reymond, the screen flashes then goes back to the same screen. I’ve tried the cntl cmd n but it doesn’t work. Cleared cache. Is the screen flash part of the bug?

Thanks for trying the steps shared by my colleague, kfunasaki.

A flash screen isn't part of the bug. There are times that an issue like this is caused by a browser that's full of cache or recent activity.

When you experience this issue again, you may want to open QuickBooks or clear your browser's cache.

However, if you're still getting a flash screen error, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team. They can pull up your account and investigate this further. Here's how:

  1. From the ? Help icon, and then click Contact Us.
  2. Enter I've tried running payroll and got run payroll now using paper checks error but, nothing happens.
  3. Click Let's talk.
  4. Select either Start a chat or Get a call.

Once this is fixed, you're good to pay your employees. I've added this article as your guide: Process or run payroll.

I'll be around if there's anything that I can help. Stay safe!
