Is there an iPad IOS version for QB Self-employed? I know there is an iOS version, but that was definitely developed for an iPhone and is really awkward on an iPad.

The mobile app available for QuickBooks Self-Employed accounts isn't specifically designed for iPads just yet. I can see how differentiating the apps would be helpful so I'll be sure to pass your feedback along to the Product Development Team.
