How can we get around the "tax penalties may apply?" It only allows continue but does not post the data. I do not allow automatic payments and will not. I simply use to generate tax forms that I MAIL IN!

Good morning, @j-barker-be

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for support. I hope you're enjoying the day so far. I'm happy to lend a hand with your tax penalties.

When entering historical payroll data in QuickBooks Online, it's important to keep in mind that you can only enter payroll from the current year. This is because QuickBooks Online is a based storage system and will only keep records of payroll for the current year we're in. However, with that being said, there is a place to enter prior payroll. I've included the steps to enter prior payroll below.

  1. Go to the Workers menu, then choose Employees
  2. Click on the employee to open their information. Then, hit Enter prior pay details
  3. Enter all the necessary details.

For more information about this process, check out Set up a prior payroll

Additionally, you can see Process a late payroll (backdate paychecks) and Paying late federal taxes for more information about penalties.

Leave a comment below if you have further questions about this or if you need help with something else, I'm always glad to help. Take care and enjoy the rest of your day!
