Question

The payroll tax payment for one of my pay periods did not populate in the bank register. I spent over an hour with a support person who didn't understand the problem.

I’ll help you verify this tax payment, @Cindydlars.

I know you've spent a lot of time with our support, and I appreciate you for bringing this concern to our attention.

There are several reasons why it’s unable to populate in the system. The payroll tax payment was unsuccessfully recorded, or it might be allocated to a different bank account.

We can check your past entries for us to make sure. You can follow these steps below to do it:

  1. From the left menu, select Taxes.
  2. Click Payroll Tax.
  3. Choose View Tax Payments you have made.
  4. Select the date period.
  5. Press Run Report.
  6. Select the exact payment to view the detail.

Once verified and the account is correct. You can open your QuickBooks account using a private window for testing. Check your register if the payment is included. If it works, you’ll want to clear your regular browser cache for a clean slate. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

If it’s posted to the wrong bank account, here's how you can correct the payment:

  1. On the left panel, select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Choose the wrong account, and click View register.
  3. Select the payment and click Edit.
  4. Change the posting account, and click Save and close.
  5. Press Yes.

I’ve added this article about reconciling accounts in QuickBooks for your future reference. It contains the complete steps to ensure everything is accounted for and the ending balances match.

Let me know if you have payroll questions or concerns. I’ll be here anytime to help you further. Have a good one.
