Question

While filling out the W-4 portion for my new employee, it populated the State for his address wrong and won't let me change it. What do I do?

Glad to see you in the Community, @jgalicia.

You should be able to update your employee's information on the withholding's page. You can attempt changing this using a private window to check if it'll go through.

Here's how to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + P for Internet Explorer or Firefox.
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + N for Chrome.
  • Hold down Command + Shift + N for Safari.

Then, go back to the Edit employee details page and update your employee's info.

If you're able to modify and use the new address, you can go back to your regular browser and clear the cache

However, if this employee is hired on or after January 1, 2020, please refer to this link for the W-4 changes in QBO: What’s changing with the Federal W-4?

Reach out to me if you need anything else. I’ll be around to help. Wishing you the best!

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, attempting to edit the W-4 info in a private browser did not fix the issue. My problem is that there is no drop-down list for the States when entering the home address. I am including a picture for reference, and if you could explain that I would be most grateful.

Best!

I appreciate the screenshot you've provided, @jgalicia.

Let's first try entering the zip code of the employee. Once you do so, the system will automatically detect the correct State.

If the issue persists, I'd suggest logging out from QuickBooks and sign in again after 3-5 minutes.
