Fix common sign-in errors in QuickBooks Online

Learn how to fix common sign-in errors in QuickBooks Online.

If you can't sign in to QuickBooks Online and you see one of these messages, don't worry. We have solutions that can help you fix them.

  • WebPage cannot be found
  • Error 404: File Not Found
  • QBO is currently unavailable, please try again later

Solution 1: Check your browser settings

There are some browser settings QuickBooks Online needs to load. Here’s how to set them up.

  1. Check if your browser works with QuickBooks Online.
  2. JavaScript and pop-ups are some of the browser settings QuickBooks Online needs to load its pages. Make sure they’re turned on.
  3. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.

If you still can’t sign in, proceed to solution 2.

Solution 2: Clear your browser’s cache and cookies

QuickBooks Online uses your browser’s cache and cookies to run faster. However, they can block web pages from loading. Clear your cache and cookies, then sign in to QuickBooks Online.

If you still can’t sign in, proceed to solution 3.

Solution 3: Sign in to QuickBooks Online

Try to sign in directly to QuickBooks Online. If you can’t access the page, here’s another way to sign in.

  1. Go to the QuickBooks official site.
  2. Hover on Sign In, then select QuickBooks Online.
  3. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.

If you still can’t sign in, proceed to solution 4.

Solution 4: Add QuickBooks as a trusted site

The security of your device can prevent QuickBooks Online from working. You can make an exception for QuickBooks Online when you add it to your browser as a trusted site. Here’s how.

  1. Find out how to add trusted sites to your browser.
  2. Add these links to your browser’s trusted sites.
  3. Restart your browser.
  4. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.

If you still can’t sign in, proceed to solution 5.

Solution 5: Restart your computer and internet modem

Sometimes all you need is a fresh start. To clear the current state and issues in the background of your device, do a quick restart.

  1. Turn off your computer and your internet modem. If you use a wireless router or server, unplug it.
  2. Wait for 30 seconds, then turn on your modem. After another 30 seconds, plug in your router or server.
  3. Turn on your computer, then sign in to QuickBooks Online.

If you still can’t sign in, proceed to solution 6.

Solution 6: Clear your Domain Name System (DNS)

If the solutions above didn’t resolve your issue, you can try clearing your DNS. Here’s how.

Important: These steps affect your operating system, which isn’t an Intuit product. Contact your internet service provider or an IT professional to help you with these steps.

Windows

  1. Exit your browser.
  2. Press the Windows key, then enter “cmd” in the search field.
  3. Right-click on Command Prompt, then select Run as administrator.
  4. Enter “Ipconfig /flushdns”, then press Enter.
  5. Enter “ipconfig /registerdns”, then press Enter.
  6. Close the Command Prompt window.
  7. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.

Mac

  1. Quit your browser.
  2. From the Go menu, select Utilities.
  3. Double-click the Terminal.
  4. Enter “dscacheutil -flushcache”, then press Enter.
  5. Enter “sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder”, then press Enter.
  6. Close the Terminal window.
  7. Sign in to QuickBooks Online.
