Fix Error: Out of disk space

Learn how to fix “Backup could not be completed because it ran out of disk space” to continue backing up your files with Intuit Data Protect (IDP).

You receive this error when your computer doesn’t have enough space to back up your files with IDP. Your computer needs to have free space which is twice the total size of all the files you want to back up plus an additional 60MB in your C:\ drive.

For example, if the files you want to back up has a total of 1GB, you need to have 2GB and 60MB of free space.

Free up space on your drive or move the IDP temporary files so you can continue backing up your files.

Option 1: Free up space on your computer

To free up space, select the Windows version you use then follow the steps provided:

If you still can't back up your files, proceed to option 2.

Option 2: Move your IDP temp files to a different location

You can move the temporary files to a partition or drive that has more space. To do this:

  1. Update Intuit Data Protect to the latest release.
  2. On your keyboard, press the Windows key. In the search bar, enter "Notepad", then press Enter.
