How do I map a network drive in Windows?

When you map a network drive in Windows, you gain access to a folder stored in another drive, server, or computer over a network. Mapping makes it easy for you to access QuickBooks company file from the shared storage.

How to map a network drive in Windows (Windows 8/10 and Windows 7)

For Windows 8/10:

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows icon.
  2. Type This PC in the search bar. From the search results, choose This PC.
  3. Under the Computer tab, select Map a network drive.
  4. Select any unused drive letter then select Browse.
  5. Go to the network location where your QuickBooks company file is stored.
(Note: If you're having trouble mapping the network drive using the UNC, try using the IP address of the server.)
  6. Select OK then Finish.
  7. Reopen your QuickBooks company file from the new mapped drive.

For Windows 7:

  1. From the Start Menu, select Computer.
  2. Select the Tools menu then Map network drive. If you don't see the Tools menu, press the Alt key to reveal the menu bar.
  3. Select any unused drive letter then select Browse.
  4. Go to the network location where your QuickBooks company file is stored.
(Note: If you're having trouble mapping the network drive using the UNC, try using the IP address of the server.)
  5. Select OK then Finish. Your new drive letter will appear in the previous window as a Network Drive.
  6. Reopen your QuickBooks company file from the new mapped drive.

Great! You have mapped your network drive and can easily access your QuickBooks company file from another drive or computer.
